What it Is

The Summer Literacy Camp is a state-wide project, funded by the Duke Endowment and supported by many partners, that enables churches and school staff to partner together and catch up struggling readers. The partnership allows learning to be at the center by generous financial sponsorship, allowing us to hire real teachers to do what they do best. This service is offered for free to all children who need it.

Targeting rising 1st -3rd graders, the camp aims to make the highest impact by turning struggling readers into confident readers. This changes the course of their school careers, putting kids on the path to success in anything they try. They are in small groups (no more than 12 per classroom) with a teacher and an assistant, focusing on their reading skills.

The initiative is faith-placed, not faith based. We are teaching them to read and showing them love because we believe that empowering and loving kids honors God. If you believe something different, we hope we can co-exist and support the kids together anyway. We surround them with love in our planning, our presence, and our enrichment opportunities.
