Heartstrings Praise Band Evening of Praise & Fellowship

Sunday, March 7     -       6:00 pm

Please join the JUMC Heartstrings Praise Band for an Evening of Praise and Fellowship, Sunday, January 31 at 6 pm in the Wesley Center. Having played at many other area churches throughout the years, the ten member band is “coming home” to share its witness! 

     There is no cost for the event, but we are asking that you please bring a non-perishable food item for donation to CUOC.  

     The program will be followed by a time of fellowship, with light refreshments provided by the United Methodist Women.
      We hope to see everyone there, and remember to bring F.R.A.N. (your Friends, Relatives, Acquaintances, and Neighbors!) Look for more events like this once per quarter.


FIRST SUNDAY FOOD: This Sunday the first in March, is the perfect time to bring a generous donation of food for CUOC and a cash gift for the JUMC Good Samaritan Fund.  Your generous First Sunday Donations provide welcome relief to people in need.


The United Methodist Women will meet on Monday, March 8, 7:00 p.m. in the Wesley Center.  Sanford District President, Tanya Alvord, will present our program.  Her topic is, “The Spirit of United Methodist Women.”  Please make a special effort to come.


The UMMen March Fellowship Supper will be on Tuesday, March 9, at 5:45 p.m. at Brick City Grill. Those attending will purchase their own meal. We will make final plans for the Pancake Breakfast/Silent Auction and discuss some of our other upcoming events and service projects. All men of the church are invited to attend. For first time attendees the meal on us. Contact Bill if you have questions.


The UMMen will prepare and serve the meal on Wednesday, March 10, at the Bread Basket. Food preparation begins about 8:30 a.m. and the meal is served between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Cleanup is over by 1:00 p.m. You can volunteer for any time that fits your schedule.  To volunteer, please see or call Bill (356-5109).


The Family of Marie Shontz will be holding a Memorial Service in her honor and dedicated to the glory of God on Saturday, March 13, 2010, beginning at 3:00 p.m.  The service will be held in the Sanctuary of Jonesboro United Methodist Church, with a reception immediately following in the Wesley Center next door.

The UMMen’s annual Pancake Breakfast and Silent Auction, will be Saturday, March 20, from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Tickets for this all you can eat breakfast are $5.00 and are now on sale. We’re hoping to have over 100 items in the silent auction this year. There will be something for everyone and every budget.  Please come and enjoy a delicious breakfast, find a special item in the auction and support the ministries of UMM. If you have something you would be willing to make for or donate to the auction, please contact Bill (356-5109) or Tom (356-7570).


A Lenten Bible Study entitled Watching the Disciples–-Learning from Their Mistakes, is being offered on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. Join us for this exciting learning and spiritual experience.

Confirmation Classes continue on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.. The classes are offered for young people in grade six through grade 12 who have not yet become full members of the church. The 2010 class will be confirmed on Sunday, May 23.  If you are interested in taking confirmation please sign up in the church office or see Juli or Pastor Joe with any questions. 

Called to Serve


The Council Meeting Minutes, monthly financial reports, Ministry team “job descriptions” and the 2010 church leader lists are now available on the “Members Only” page of JonesboroUMC.org.  Consider how you might like to serve!  If you do not know how to access the page, contact Deb at LongShadows@windstream.net.

Volunteers needed at CUOC on Mondays and Thursdays to help make up bags for our clients.  Work hours would be from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon on any given Monday or Thursday.  We only need 3 people per day to meet this need.  Please contact Teresa Dew (774-8485) if you are interested.

Items needed for CUOC: Drop offs at CUOC are best in the morning. Crush and Run Gravel; Easter Baskets; Plastic Grocery Bags; Ink Pens; Food items: Soup, Meat (treat, tuna, beef stews), Vegetables,  Crackers (Saltines), Paper goods (toilet paper or paper towels)


CUOC needs clean plastic bags for fruits and vegetables.  You may leave them in the grocery carts at JUMC.
The youth have chosen a mission trip for Summer 2010. We will be heading to Raleigh NC. There we will be working with the homeless shelters, elderly and children's centers and seek to address the needs of Raleigh. The dates will be June 20-25.

Please remember to check your mail slots in the church office. There is a slot for all committee chairpersons, Sunday School classes, circle chairs, VBS, newsletter articles, Wonderful Wednesday, and choirs.

The local hospital no longer has anyone to pick up old magazines so please do not leave any more in the hallway of the Education Building.

Join us each Sunday morning before and after the 8:30 a.m. Heartstrings Worship Celebration in the Wesley Center for light refreshments, a cup of coffee and great conversation, available to everyone!  Come early, then attend the 8:30 or 8:45 Worship Services.  Come later, gather with your church family, then go on to Sunday School, your choice – just know that we are here for you!


LOST - White Monogrammed Communion Altar Cloth.  If you know where it is or know who might have it please return it to the church.

If you have a question, suggestion or complaint and you’re not sure who to talk to, the Church Lay Leadership directory is posted on the bulletin board outside of the kitchen in the Wesley Center--and also on the "Members Only" page of this website.  It has the names and contact information of all the Church Council members as well as a list of all the JUMC committees/teams and their members.

If you have e-mail, please send a note to jayme1@windstream.net; include the name(s) associated with the e-mail address and she will make sure you are set up. Or sign up on-line here.
