is Sanford District Lay Ministry of the Year
Thanks to your hard work and tireless efforts, our Military Ministry was lifted up as the Lay Ministry of the Year at the Sanford District Lay Rally held on February 21, at Southern Pines UMC.
Our ministry, along with those from the other twelve Districts in the NC Conference will be recognized at this year’s Annual Conference, which will be held June 9-12 at the Greenville Convention Center in Greenville, NC.

Pictured here are some of the members of the Military Ministry Team who spearheaded our efforts to adopt the Charlie Company, Joe C., chairman; Norma S., and Linda L., with Zack Coyle. Zack is in the Charlie Company, was formerly stationed in Iraq, and recently returned home to Texas.
On July 5, while he was visiting his mother in Raleigh, Zack and eight of his family members took the time to come to JUMC to thank our church for all the care packages, letters, and prayers offered for his company. Twelve of our church members enjoyed a meal with Zack and his family at Tony's Seafood Restaurant after church.
Since Autumn 2008 we have--
Sent 30 boxes of personal and comfort items to Company C, 2-4 Aviation, General Support Aviation Battalion, formerly deployed to Iraq from Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
"Adopted" Company C soldiers to correspond with as individuals.
Participated in the Company D deployment ceremony in December.
Sent Company C soldiers 26 cartons containing 104 boxes of cookies, along with Christmas cards and a picture of the JUMC family.
Helped compile 86 Valentine boxes for Company D, including cards made by our Pioneer Club members.
Sent Easter Celebration Boxes to Company C soldiers with a card from our Pioneer Club kids and a cross, plus Eater candy and other goodies.
Sent 100 Bibles and pocket crosses to Company D soldiers, paid for by donating loose change through the summer.
Paid for the shipping of 227 pounds of school supplies collected by the families of Co. D for the Iraqi school in their area of operation.
Collected and sent playground equipment--23 soccer balls, 19 four square balls, 64 assort smaller balls, 17 Frisbees, 31 jump ropes, 2 bubble sticks and a color parachute game.
Co-sponsored (with Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church), a giant yard sale to help Co. D families raise money for Christmas packages for the troops. JUMYouth provided coffee and soft drinks to those selling and buying items.
Created and shipped 77 boxes of Christmas cookies, along with cards from our youth and a picture of the church family, to the national guard unit in Iraq.
